Top 5 Coolest Fictional Cars

First things first, let's clear this up right now--there are no animated cars on this list.  That'll be later.  This list is populated with cars which had a major role in their respective movie or television show and were really, really cool.  Sure there may have been better looking cars (who didn't want a Lamborghini Countach?), but these were so much more than just cars.

5: Ghostbusters Car (Ghostbusters series) - The lights on the top and logo on the side were so distinctive, but the red fins were the coolest.  I'm still not sure how they got clearance for the siren and lights--is ghostbusting reason enough to elevate a vehicle to "emergency" status?  I guess that anything's possible in the Big Apple.

4: EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle (Stripes) - Designed to fit into an urban setting, the EM-50 carried a battery of weapons--and Bill Murray and Harold Ramis--into an accidental battle against Communists.  One might ask whether there ever existed an urban area where the EM-50 would fit in, but the movie was a comedy--let's not overthink it.

3: Batmobile (Batman series) - Any of the Batmobiles will do, based simply on all the cool gadgets.  As a kid, I thought the one pictured here was super-cool, so I am including that as the specific one that makes the list.  Batman (particularly as the Dark Knight) is a pretty cool character, and the fact that his car looks so wild and does really cool stuff makes him and the movies even better.

2: K.I.T.T. (Knight Rider) - Knight Industries Three Thousand was a sentient car.  Plus, K.I.T.T. had an amazing list of special weapons and features.  Finally, K.I.T.T. might be a Cylon, and that's pretty cool too.

1: DeLorean Time Machine (Back to the Future series) - It's doors open bottom-to-top, it has a flux capacitor, and in its (relative) future, it will fly.  Oh yeah, it's also a frickin' time machine!

There are so many distinctive t.v. show and movie cars out there, it was hard to choose five.  I think these represent a good cross-section, but doubtless I missed a bunch.  Let me know what you think belongs on this list by adding your picks to the comments below.  And go check out (and "like") our Facebook page for daily updates and additional content!

  3.  Exactly, except that it was beaten down and the VW symbol was replaced with the DHARMA symbol.

  5. I think the Bluesmobile deserves a spot somewhere. That car could fly too.

  9. The EM-50 is a sublime inclusion. That's right, I said, "sublime."

A childhood favorite was the "General Lee" from the "Dukes of Hazard." Racial weirdness with the rebel flag kinda throws the whole thing out of whack as an adult, but it was fun while it lasted.

  10. Well put, on both counts.  I seriously considered the General Lee, but it's called the General Lee, as in the General of Confederate Army fame.  I came to the same conclusion you did--it was fun when I didn't understand it.
